WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Widener University scored a
pair of goals in each half to secure a 4-0 MAC Commonwealth field
hockey victory over host Shenandoah Saturday morning.
Widener (9-4, 2-3 CC) dropped the Hornets to the .500 mark with
the Senior Day victory.
Shenandoah falls to 8-8 overall and 0-6 in the Commonwealth with
the loss. The Hornets complete their season on Wednesday with a
home game against Messiah College, who will likely be ranked No. 1
in the nation by the time the two teams play.
Kate Erkoboni gave the Pride all of the offense they would need
with her unassisted goal in the 21st minute. Just
over three minutes later, Colleen Cormier gave the visitors an
insurance tally with a goal off an Olivia Burgese feed.
The final two goals came in a 69-second span early in the second
half. Lauren Gehringer had the first, at 41:48, before Cormier
added her second at 42:57.
WC outshot SU 18-9 and held a 14-3 advantage in penalty
corners.
Hornets keeper Sarah Clare had
nine saves in just over 58 minutes of action.
