Volleyball Drops a Pair

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Sunday afternoon in its penultimate tri-match of the season.

SU (15-12, 5-11 USA South) was a 3-1 loser to Methodist before being swept by Averett in the middle match of the afternoon.

The Monarchs (15-11, 6-8 USA South) prevented SU from earning its sixth conference victory of the season with a 25-19, 11-25, 25-12, 25-17 opening match victory.

Sophomore Mary Harshman and freshman Haley Smith paced the Hornets offense with 11 kills each; Harshman had nearly that entire total (nine) in the set two win.

Harshman, with 12 digs, was also the only SU player to record a double-double.

Brooke Strathy and Kelcy Brown had 19 and 15 assists, respectively.

Smith and Rachel Maki had six kills each in the Averett (20-12, 10-4) match, with Harshman adding five and Megan Gillispie four.

Brown and Strathy were the only players in double figures. They had 10 assists each.

Shenandoah travels to Division II Washington Adventist on Wednesday for its final non-league match of the year.
