STAUNTON, Va. – Shenandoah University set a new school season record for women's soccer victories with a 7-0 USA South Conference win at Mary Baldwin Friday afternoon.
The Hornets (11-6-3, 5-3-1 USA South) break a record that was originally set in 1994 with the win over the Fighting Squirrels (2-12, 0-8).
SU ties with Ferrum and Greensboro for third in the league, but Shenandoah will be the fifth-seed based on head-to-head tie-breakers with both the Panthers and Pride.
Ferrum gains the No. 3 seed over GC, based on the FC win over No. 6 Averett this afternoon. This means that the Hornets will play at Greensboro on Tuesday.
The game time and location are to be determined.
The Hornets got the record-clinching win behind the strength of two goals apiece from freshmen Laura Standley and Hannah Oakes and sophomore Jessi Dennis.
Dennis' classmate, Amber Womack, rounded out Shenandoah's goal-scorers.
Oakes had the game-winner, off of a Womack assist, in the fifth minute.
Shenandoah outshot MBC 24-5, including 16-2 in the opening 45 minutes. SU also had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
