WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University earned its fourth straight volleyball victory with a 3-0 non-league sweep over Hood College Friday night.
The win also gives the Hornets (12-9) a sweep of the season series over Hood (5-10).
Shenandoah was in control virtually throughout the 25-20, 25-11, 25-20 win as coach Jaime Terenzi's club scored the opening three points of the match and did not trail at all in the opening set.
Junior Rachel Maki and freshman Haley Smith led the team to the first set win with four and three kills, respectively.
After the Blazers took their first lead by scoring the initial point of the second and found themselves tied at 6-6 following an SU attack error, the Hornets blitzed their visitors with 19 of the final 25 points of the set.
Included in this run was an eight-point run from the service line from senior Brittany Harryman.
Hood had its biggest lead, 7-4, in the final set, before Shenandoah put the final nail in the coffin with a 7-0 run midway through the set.
Brooke Strathy, who had 19 assists, set up Maki for the clinching kill of the contest.
Maki led all players with 11 kills while Harryman, Mary Harshman and Megan Gillispie all registered double-digit digs.
SU returns to USA South Conference play on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. match at Ferrum College.
