KERNSTOWN, Va. – Shenandoah University had a first and a
second in its final cross country tune-up before the USA South
Conference Championships Saturday morning on Kernstown
Battlefield.
Competing against McDaniel, Eastern Mennonite, Ferrum and
Averett on the men's side and Mary Baldwin in addition to those
four other schools in the women's race, Shenandoah won the men's
and was second in the women's.
Both races were 5000 meters and the SU women used the race a
pre-championships workout.
McDaniel, led by Lindsey Wilson's 19:16, won the women's event
by two points over No. 4 in the South SU with 27 points. Mary
Baldwin was third with 84.
Hornets junior Amy
Smith was second to Wilson with a 21:05 and Jennie Ott third at
21:11.
There were 36 total runners among the six women's teams.
In the men's race, Richie Bikko from Eastern Mennonite won it
with a 16:27 while the Hornets Josiah Renton and Ryan Taylor
were third and fourth, respectively, with 17:19 and 17:37.
Shenandoah, who are ranked 10th in the South Region, won this
event by 11 points over McDaniel with 24 points.
SU is off until October 30 when it competes at the USA South
Conference championships at Hagen Stone Park outside of Greensboro,
N.C.
