WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Bridgewater College rallied for a
14-12 non-league women's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Sunday
afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
Trailing 7-5 at the break and by three goals early in the
second, BC (1-0) scored six unanswered to take a lead it would not
relinquish over the Hornets (0-1).
Senior Kate Moulton had two of her game-high six goals in this
stretch as the Eagles used a dominant performance from both the
draw circle and on rides to erase their deficit.
After Shenandoah had won eight of 13 draws in the first half and
successfully cleared seven of 10 opportunities, Bridgewater took 10
of the 15 second half draws and broke five SU clears.
On two of those occasions, the last with 3:54 remaining, BC
converted those broken clears into goals.
The Hornets were able to cut the deficit to one goal twice in
the last six minutes, but each time Bridgewater was able to answer
with an insurance goal.
Moulton had the second of those insurance goals, tallying off of
a Sarah Bursey feed to provide the final score with 1:55 to play.
Moulton led all scorers with six goals; she was the only Eagle
to find the back of the net more than once.
Freshman Sydney
Anderson paced the hosts with three goals while Sara Mucciaro, Jennie Ott and
Amy
Rollins had two goals apiece. Mucciaro and Rollins also
had one assist each.
SU held a 30-20 advantage in groundballs and keeper Tori
Beasley made eight saves.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at Washington &
Jefferson.
