FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - No. 8/23 Shenandoah University ran its
baseball winning streak to eight games Saturday afternoon with a
4-2 USA South Conference win at Methodist University.
The Hornets (11-3, 3-2 USA South) rode the battery of
junior Greg
Van Sickler and freshman Keaton Neeb to the
win over the Monarchs (12-5, 2-3).
Van Sickler (3-1) tossed a complete-game four-hitter while also
getting three hits in four at-bats.
Neeb was 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in his
club's initial two runs with doubles to right and
center in the second and fourth innings, respectively.
Staked with a 3-1 after Jesse Henry plated
Kevin
Brashears with a single through the right side in the
fifth, Van Sickler allowed just a solo home run the rest
of the way to win his 15th career contest.
Van Sickler retired the Monarchs in order in the third, fifth,
seventh and ninth - the only batter to reach in three frames was on
a one-out walk in the eighth.
For the game, Van Sickler allowed the two runs (one earned) on
four hits and one walk while striking out six.
In addition to Van Sickler's three hits and the two from Neeb,
Brashears, Henry, Jon Holcomb and Adam
Delauter had two each.
Delauter scored the final run of the game by leading off
the seventh with a double to right center and coming home on
a Holcomb two-bagger.
Landon Jordan (3-2) took the loss for MU. He allowed four
runs (three earned) on 12 hits and one walk in 6 2/3.
The two teams complete the weekend series with a 2:00
contest Sunday.
