WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team
posted its second straight win Saturday afternoon with an 11-10
non-league win over Misericordia University.
After Misericordia (2-3) opened the game by scoring the first
two goals, Shenandoah (2-5) reeled off seven unanswered to take a
lead it would not relinquish.
Sophomore Courtney
Ledden got this run started with an unassisted goal at
4:43 of the first and the Hornets continued the run by scoring the
first five goals of the second.
Four different players scored in the second quarter portion of
the run, with junior P.J.
Cooper starting and ending it with goals at 12:07 and
5:42.
The Cougars finally stopped the spurt with a Matt Gonzalez goal
at 2:36 before Cooper and Jimmy
Bungert closed out the first half scoring with tallies at
1:20 and 37 seconds, respectively.
SU had a dominant day at the faceoff 'x', winning 18 of 22 draws
- sophomore Sean
Mack was 17 of 21 himself to allow the hosts to
continually gain possession.
MU made things interesting by scoring the first three goals of
both the third and fourth quarters, but Shenandoah had an answer
each time.
Holding a 10-9 lead with midway though the final stanza,
freshman Matt
Hendrickson got what proved to be the game-winner with an
unassisted goal with 6:17 remaining.
Goalkeeper Andrew
Fleischmann made 11 saves to win his second straight.
In addition to the faceoff dominance, Shenandoah held a 51-30
advantage in groundballs and took 32 of the game's 63 shots.
The Hornets open CSAC play next Saturday at Centenary (N.J.).
