HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Host Centenary (N.J.) opened CSAC men's
lacrosse play Saturday afternoon with a 13-10 victory over
Shenandoah.
The Cyclones (4-2, 1-0 CSAC) scored the first four goals of the
game and never looked back against the Hornets (2-6, 0-1).
After falling behind by those four goals in the first 5:22 of
the contest, Shenandoah used a three-goal run to start the second
period to cut the deficit to one, 6-5, following a Jimmy Bungert at
9:35.
Unfortunately for SU, Centenary scored the game's next two goals
and did not let its margin fall lower than two goals the rest of
the way.
A 3-1 CC run sandwiching halftime gave the hosts an 11-7 lead
with 9:18 remaining in the third; Shenandoah cut it to three when
Kevin
Totaro scored but the Cyclones again pulled away by
scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter.
Courtney
Ledden and Sean Mack closed out
the scoring for the Hornets with unassisted goals at 1:19 and 1:00,
respectively.
Junior P.J.
Cooper, who was named to the CSAC Honor Roll this past week,
led the visitors with three goals while Bungert added two.
Goalkeeper Andrew
Fleischmann made 11 saves.
CC owned a 37-31 advantage in shots while Shenandoah was 16 of
26 at the faceoff 'x' and grabbed 51 of 92 groundballs.
Shenandoah hosts Immaculata on April 7 in another CSAC
contest.
