WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its week on
the tennis court Sunday morning by suffering a USA South Conference
doubleheader sweep at the hands of Greensboro College.
The Shenandoah women (4-5, 1-3 USA South) dropped a 6-3 decision
as the SU men (2-7, 0-3) fell 7-2.
The women's match was very close, with the losing team in each
of the three doubles matches winning at least six games. Two of the
matches, at Nos. 1 and 3, went to a tiebreak at 8-8 with GC coming
out on top at No. 1 and Shenandoah at No. 3.
Greensboro was an 8-6 winner at No. 2 to take a 2-1 lead into
singles.
Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles went into three sets with GC taking the
bottom two of those matches to bring itself just one point from
clinching the victory.
The Pride did just that with straight set wins at Nos.
2 and 6.
Sophomore Briana Malley, with a
6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 and junior Denise Myrick, 6-3,
6-0 at No. 4, were the Hornets singles winners.
The men's duo of Adam Bamberger
and Tim Lutz
won No. 3 doubles 9-8 (7-5), but Greensboro closed out SU by
winning all but No. 2 singles.
Junior Julian
Fehr was a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 winner in that singles match.
Both teams are in action this coming Saturday morning at
Methodist.
