FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Shenandoah Men's Tennis concluded day two of competition at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday. Dominick Suwak advanced to the Men's Singles Quarterfinal, while advancing to the Round of 16 with doubles teammate Lucas Beasley.

Day One

Suwak entered the tournament as one of the best in the region, ranked 5th in his Round of 64 pod. He opened the weekend on Thursday, taking on a familiar opponent in Corey Beshoar of Bridgewater, winning 6-2, 2-2 (RET (Inj.)).

Artem Babaiev also competed on Thursday afternoon, falling to ODAC counterpart Jacob Martin of Randolph College 6-2, 6-1.

Day Two Doubles

Doubles matches kicked off a Friday full of tennis. Suwak and Beasley started bright and early with an 8 am Champions Doubles match against Gershon/Irkar of Carnegie Mellon. The pair won a gritty tiebreak match 8-7 (10-8). The match of the day came right after, as the Hornets' duo took down Melnikov/Koduri of Swarthmore 8-5. This became one of the biggest upsets in program history, as the Swarthmore pair not only was ranked #1 in the doubles pod, but ended last spring ranked #5 nationally (ITA) and 2nd regionally (NCAA).

Artem Babaiev and Neal Love competed in the B1 Doubles bracket, where they lost a tight match against Wroblewski/Perkins of Washington College, 7-8 (4-7).

Max Arkans and Siddharrth Rajagopalan competed in the B2 Doubles bracket. Their morning opened with another tiebreak victory, beating ODAC foes Ramirez/Henriquez of Roanoke 8-7 (7-4). Their next match, the B2 Semifinal, went the other way, with the pair falling to Fogle/Funderburk of Hampden-Sydney 6-8.

Day Two Singles

In the singles segment of the day, Suwak opened the day, taking on another ODAC foe in Pierce Lane of Washington and Lee. Suwak would advance to the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. To conclude the day, Suwak took on Mukundh Boopathi of Johns Hopkins and won a back-and-forth match 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Babaiev, competing in the consolation bracket after his opening day loss, would conclude his weekend after falling to Ayaan Choudhary of Virginia Wesleyan, 2-8.
