ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University won its second
straight women's lacrosse match Tuesday afternoon with a 14-1 USA
South Conference win over N.C. Wesleyan.
The Hornets (3-3, 2-0 USA South) have already matched last
season's win total with the win over the newly reinstated Bishops
(0-4, 0-2).
N.C. Wesleyan is in its first year of varsity lacrosse after
suspending the program for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Last year,
the team played as a club program.
After the Bishops score the opening goal on a Sarah Matulich
tally right off the opening draw, Shenandoah dominated the
remainder of the contest.
The Hornets had a lead they would not relinquish 76 seconds
after Matulich scored her goal and eventually led 10-1 by the
halftime break.
SU held a 21-3 halftime advantage in shots, won 10 of 16
groundballs and seven of 12 draw controls.
Junior Sara Mucciaro had
those first two goals while classmate Ashley Heroth added
two goals and an assist and freshman Corrinne
Kosmowski a goal and two assists.
Shenandoah held the ball for most of the second half, scoring
two goals in the first 10 minutes and another two in the last five.
Junior Jennie Ott led all
scorers with two goals and two aasists.
Freshman goalie Tori Beasley had
to make just four saves.
SU continues USA South Conference play with a Saturday home
contest against Ferrum. First draw is scheduled for 2:30.
