WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Catholic University sent Shenandoah
University down to its fifth straight men's lacrosse defeat with a
14-4 non-league victory Tuesday night on Sprint Field at Shentel
Stadium.
Catholic (8-2) needed just 12 seconds to take a lead it would
not relinquish over Shenandoah (2-9).
Mike Groh scored that goal off of a Mike Scotto cross-crease
feed, and the Cardinals were off and running.
The two teams would trade the next four goals, with Courtney
Ledden and P.J. Cooper scoring for
SU at 11:05 and 9:14, respectively.
Unfortunately for the home fans, Catholic strung together a 7-0
run around the first quarter break and eventually took an 11-3 lead
into the half.
The second half was a slow-down affair with each team scoring
once in the third before Jimmy Bitonti put the cap on the night's
scoring with his unassisted goal for the victors at 10:18 of the
fourth.
Kevin
Totaro had the Hornets final goal, an unassisted tally, at
2:18 of the third.
CUA outshot SU 41-20, won 12 of 21 faceoffs and held a 38-25
advantage in groundballs.
Shenandoah returns to the CSAC play with a Saturday game at
Marywood.
