DANVILLE, Va. – Host Averett University salvaged a split
of its USA South Conference baseball series with No. 14/16
Shenandoah by downing the Hornets 16-11 Saturday afternoon at
Owen-Fulton Field.
Averett (21-13, 5-5 USA South) broke open the game with a
seven-run seventh over SU (23-6, 6-4).
Thanks to two runs in the top of the frame, Shenandoah led 10-9
before the Cougars scored the seven runs on five hits and three
walks. Catcher Michael Moore had the big hit with a three-run
double down the leftfield line off of sophomore Kyle Scallion.

reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored when AU
couldn't handle Cory Nelson's groundball
to first base.
Shenandoah had 11 hits in the game, including three from Jesse Henry and two
each by Kevin
Brashears, Scott Van
Dusseldorp, Keaton Neeb and Adam Delauter.
Delauter had give SU the 10-9 advantage with a sacrifice fly to
right in the seventh.
The Hornets are back on the field on Tuesday with a non-league
game at Catholic University of America.
