CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Shenandoah University opened up its 2010
field hockey season the same way it opened 2009 - with an overtime
victory over Wilson College.
Senior Paola
Aguilar opened the scoring with an unassisted goal for the
Hornets (1-0) in the first half before
Wilsons (0-1) Kelli Wilson tied it in the
second.
With the Hornets and Phoenix unable to find the back of the net
for the remainder of the the 70-minute, SU entered overtime for the
second consecutive meeting.
Aguilar set up Sarah DeLuca 6:14 into
the second OT session, giving Shenandoah its first road victory
since October 9, 2009 at Sweet Briar.
Freshman Sarah Clare got the
win for SU, playing the second half and overtime. She collected
three saves and didn't allow a goal in 51:14 of action.
Shenandoah outshot WC 25-17 and had 13 of the game's 19 penalty
corners.
The Hornets are now off for the next 10 days and return to
action next Saturday at Roanoke College.
