WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University ran its women's soccer
unbeaten streak to four games Wednesday night with a 2-2 non-league
tie against Bridgewater College.
Much like their scoreless draw on the same Sprint Field at
Shentel Stadium turf in 2008, SU (3-2-1) and BC (1-4-1) battled
back and forth over 110 minutes Wednesday night.
Bridgewater took the early lead on an Alyssa Monninger goal in
the 24th minute; Monninger got her own rebound following a Kat Terza save and scored when her second shot was deflected over
Terza's head.
Shenandoah brought the contest back to level in the 54th minute
when freshman Brittany Butcher finished off a shot
from in front of Eagles keeper Shauna Manovich for an
unassisted tally.
Just over 20 minutes later, Butcher helped her side to
the lead for the first time when she found classmate Jenna Kline wide open along the left side and Kline blasted her shot
from 20 yards past Manovich into the right panel.
Unfortunately for the SU crowd, Bridgewater had one last rally
in itself.
At 82:05, Sara Taylor lofted a perfect shot over Terza's head
from just outside the 18-yard box to once again bring the game back
to even.
The two teams traded nine shots in the 20 minutes of
overtime (five for Bridgewater) without either achieving the golden
goal.
Terza had a season-high 13 saves with Manovich stopping six for
the visitors.
Shenandoah is off until hosting McDaniel next Wednesday night at
7.
