DANVILLE, Va. - Shenandoah University suffered a pair of 3-0
volleyball losses Friday afternoon in its first USA South tri-match
of the 2010 season.
Host Averett (7-4, 1-1 USA South) led throughout in sweeping the
Hornets (5-3, 1-2) at 19, 17 and 21 in the opener before Methodist
University won at 18, 14 and 9 in the nightcap.
Junior Rachel Maki paced
SU in the opening match with 10 kills while sophomore Mary Harshman
added five.
Harshman also had a match-high 14 digs and classmate Kelcy Brown posted
15 assists.
Hillary Matheny recorded eight kills for the victorious
Cougars.
In the Methodist match, Harshman had six of the team's 16 total
kills with Brown chipping in five assists and a match-high 11
digs.
MU improves to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the league with the
victory.
Shenandoah completes this road trip on Saturday with non-league
tri-match at Randolph. SU faces Sweet Briar in addition to the host
WildCats.
