ASHLAND, Va. - Host Randolph-Macon College snapped Shenandoah
University's four-match field hockey winning streak with a 3-2
non-league victory Sunday afternoon.
Macon (4-4) jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead with goals in the
18th and 22nd minutes and then had to hold on to down the Hornets
(4-1).
Senior Paola Aguilar cut the Hornets deficit in half with an
unassisted tally 4:33 into the second; unfortunately, the 'Jackets
had an answer.
Mary McCarthy, who scored the first two goals of the game, found
Mikalea Rumley in front in the 58th minute for what proved to be
the game-winner.
Aguilar again brought SU to within one with a second unassisted
goal, this one in the 60th minute, but Shenandoah could not find
the equalizer.
Macon outshot the Hornets 25-9 and took 12 of the game's 15
penalty corners.
Sarah Clare had 11 saves for SU.
Shenandoah hosts the College of Notre Dame (Md.) on Tuesday in a
4:00 non-league contest.
