Men's Soccer Shuts Out Saints

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its third victory of the 2010 men's soccer season with a 2-0 non-league win over Marymount Sunday evening on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.

Shenandoah (3-4-1) kept its home record perfect with the win over the Saints (2-4-1).

After the two teams played the first 74 minutes scoreless, SU struck twice with in a 4:08 span to post the victory.

Sophomore John Peterman gave the hosts the lead with a rocket from 30 yards out before freshman Kevin Kupris clinched it by converting a penalty kick goal in the 81st minute.

At 74:22, Peterman one-timed a rebound from 30 yards out that dipped just under the bar for what proved to be the game-winner - MU keeper William Brahmstedt had no chance on the shot.

Kupris, awarded the PK following a foul in the box, hit his shot to the right of Brahmstedt, who guessed wrong and dived to his left.

Shenandoah outshot Marymount 11-6 and won seven of the game's 10 corners.

Hornets keeper Adrian Acosta made three saves in posting his second consecutive shutout.

SU is off until traveling to Hood on September 28 for another non-league contest.
