GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team
completed its week by dropping a pair of USA South Conference
matches Saturday afternoon at Greensboro.
The Hornets (8-5, 2-4 USA South) opened the day with a 3-0 loss
to the host Pride, losing at 24, 21 and 14, before dropping a 3-2
heartbreaker to Meredith.
After MC jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins at 14 and 19, SU
battled back to force a fifth set by winning the third and fourth
at 20 and 21.
Unfortunately for Shenandoah, the Avenging Angels ended the
Hornets upset bid by winning 15-11 in the fifth.
Junior Rachel Maki had four kills while Haley Smith and Megan Gillispie had three each. Gillispie paced the defensive effort with
10 digs.
Maki and Gillispie, along with Mary Harshman, had a team-high 12
kills each in the Meredith match, but it was not enough to pull out
the win.
Harshman had a team-high 15 digs and sophomore Emily Jones
backed her up with 14.
SU is back in action this Tuesday at Christopher Newport in a
USA South Conference doubleheader. SU and the Captains will play at
5 and 7.
