NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - No. 6 in the nation Christopher Newport
University swept a pair of USA South Conference volleyball matches
from visiting Shenandoah Tuesday evening.
CNU (16-1, 9-0 USA South) took the two matches from Shenandoah
(8-7, 2-6) by identical 3-0 scores.
The Captains won the second match at 13, 21 and 11 after
finishing off the first at 9, 16 and 14.
Junior Rachel Maki had a
team-high seven kills in the second match with freshman Haley Smith
adding three.
Kelcy
Brown had nine assists and sophomore Mary Harshman
paced the defensive effort with nine digs.
In the opener, Maki was again the story on offense by posting
eight kills.
Harshman opened the evening by recording 10 digs in that opening
match.
Shenandoah plays its third USA South Conference tri-match of the
season on Saturday at N.C. Wesleyan. SU faces Peace in addition to
the host Lady Bishops.
