GREENSBORO, N.C. – Host Greensboro College took advantage
of a man-advantage situation Sunday afternoon to escape with a 1-0
USA South Conference women's soccer victory over
Shenandoah.
The Pride (6-2, 2-0 USA South) knocked home a Sarah Lang goal
off of a rebound in the 81st minute to score the
game's only goal over SU (3-3-3, 0-1-1).
The goal finished off a three-shot flurry for GC. Hornets keeper
Kat Terza initially stopped an attempt by Katie Timmons and then
Lang's rebound shot before Lang finally tapped home the
second rebound.
Shenandoah, which dominated offensive possession, winning 10 of
the game's 11 corners, was playing a man-down when GC scored
its only goal.
SU was forced to play with 10 after a player picked up their
second yellow card in the 63rd minute and thus played
the final 27 minutes of the game less one player.
Greensboro, which entered the week No. 10 in the South Region,
did outshoot the Hornets 13-6.
Terza made six saves in just over 82 minutes of action to keep
her side in it.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday night with a non-league
game at Eastern Mennonite.
