SALEM, Va. - Host Roanoke College converted a late penalty kick
to down Shenandoah University 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer
match Friday evening.
The Maroons (2-0) dominated offensive possession throughout the
contest, outshooting SU 19-3 and winning six of the game's seven
corners.
Still, the Hornets (1-1) played their hosts even until a penalty
kick was awarded with just over three minutes to play.
Senior Jason Ryan took the PK for Roanoke, and Ryan buried his
waste-high shot just inside the left post for what proved to be the
game-winning goal.
SU freshman keeper Adrian Acosta, who had four saves, had no
chance on the penalty.
Shenandoah continues play at the tournament tomorrow with a 5:00
contest against Division II Salem International.
