SALEM, Va. - Shenandoah University scored early and often
Saturday afternoon in a 9-1 non-conference men's soccer victory
over Salem International.
The Hornets (2-1) jumped all over the short-handed Tigers (0-2),
scoring three times in an eight-minute span, after Salem
International tallied the game's opening goal in the fourth
minute.
Tedo Al-Hamdan brought the game back to level by
ripping a shot into the upper 90 just 35 seconds after the Tigers
scored; Carlos Ramos then netted what proved to the game-winner in
the 11th minute.
Jared Krampetz, Spencer Sladick and Robert Cordell followed in
the 13th, 21st and 33rd minutes, respectively, to give the Hornets
a 5-1 lead heading into the break.
The second half brought more of the same, with SU scoring in the
48th, 52nd, 54th and 66th minutes.
The game was called in the 71st minute after Salem, which
started the game with just eight players, suffered a game-injury to
one of those student-athletes. By rule, a team must have at least
eight players on the field to compete in a contest.
The Hornets took 25 of the game's 27 shots and neither Adrian Acosta nor Zac Rogers was forced to make a save.
Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday in a non-league
contest at Catholic.
