WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Catholic University scored a pair of
first half goals on its way to a 2-0 non-conference men's soccer
victory over Shenandoah Wednesday afternoon.
Ian Smith scored in the 30th and 39th minutes to propel the
Cardinals (2-2) to the shutout victory over SU (2-2).
Shenandoah, which had to play the last 3:44 of the contest a
man-down after being issued a red card, also missed a golden
opportunity to cut the deficit in half early in the second.
The Hornets were awarded a penalty kick in the 47th minute, but
CUA keeper Thomas O'Leary robbed Chester Podd with a diving save
and the Cards maintained their two-goal advantage.
SU had three more shots, including two on goal, but O'Leary
again was in place to keep his sheet clean.
Adrian Acosta made four saves for the visitors.
CUA held a 13-9 advantage in shots and took three of the game's
five corners.
Shenandoah is back in action on Friday at Frostburg State.
