SALEM, Va. - National power Lynchburg College used a dominating
offensive performance Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 non-league
women's soccer victory over Shenandoah University.
The LC Hornets (1-0), who made an appearance in the national
semi-finals last season and finished the year ranked fourth
nationally by D3soccer.com, scored in the 11th and 36th minutes
Saturday afternoon at Roanoke College's Kerr Stadium to take a lead
it would not relinquish over Shenandoah (0-2).
The "Battle of Hornets" was part of the first round of the 2010
Roanoke College Invitational. SU completes its participation in the
tourney by taking on host Roanoke on Sunday at 2:30.
LC outshot its fellow Hornets 27-2, including 16-0 in the
opening half of play.
Shenandoah keeper Kat Terza had five of her seven saves in the
opening first half to keep SU in it.
Early in the second, sophomore Amber Womack made matters
interesting with her penalty kick conversion in the 58th
minute.
Unfortunately for SU, Lynchburg answered back with an insurance
tally in the 80th minute.
This is the second straight contest in which Womack has scored
Shenandoah's only goal at Roanoke via PK. In 2009, it was the only
goal in a 1-0 Hornets win over RC.
LC had both of the game's corners.
