WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Methodist University scored one goal in each half Saturday morning to down Shenandoah University 2-0 in USA South Conference men's soccer action.
Kristoffe Govasmark scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Methodist (6-1-2, 1-0 USA South) in the first half before Eirik Nordseth tallied on a penalty kick in the second.
Govasmark ripped the game-winner from just outside the 18-yard box, one-timing an Eric McGinnis volley past SU keeper James Dutcher.
Nordseth converted the PK in the 60th minute after Shenandoah (1-7-1, 0-1) was called for a foul at the edge of the box. Nordseth beat Dutcher with a low shot into the left side of the goal.
MU, the No. 10 team in the South, outshot the Hornets 8-2 and had four of the game's five corner kicks.
Dutcher had two saves for the hosts.
Shenandoah is back in action on Thursday at home against future ODAC rival Bridgewater.
