ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team opened up its third USA South Conference tri-match of the season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over host N.C. Wesleyan.
The Hornets (8-8, 4-5 USA South) won at 22, 22 and 19 over the Bishops (10-4, 4-4).
It is the first SU victory over N.C. Wesleyan in the past five years - the Hornets last win over NCWC came in a 3-0 victory on September 15, 2006.
Freshman Rachel Gross led Shenandoah to the win with a match-high 11 kills. She had all but one kill in the opening two sets.
Junior Mary Harshman added nine and sophomore Haley Smith seven to back up Gross.
SU had 61 digs in the match with Harshman posting a team-high 15 and Gross, Brooke Strathy and Kelcy Brown chipping in 10 each.
Shenandoah completes the day with a 2:00 match against Peace.
