ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University was extended to a fifth set, but held on for a 3-2 USA South Conference volleyball victory over Peace College Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (9-8, 5-5 USA South) won the first two sets at 16 and 11, but found itself in a battle as Peace (6-11, 3-5) rallied to defeat SU at 17 and 22 in sets three and four.
Taken to a decisive fifth set for a fourth time this season, the Hornets won 17-15 to clinch the victory over the Pacers.
Peace actually served for the match at 15-14, but Mary Harshman brought it back to level with a kill off of a Brooke Strathy assist and SU scored the next two points on serve to take the match.
Sophomore Haley Smith put Shenandoah in position to win with a kill before Samantha Schambach did the same for the final point.
Strathy had the assist on both kills.
Smith had a team-high 15 kills in the victory with senior Rachel Maki adding 11.
Harshman was the story on defense with 19 digs.
The Hornets travel to Lancaster Bible on Tuesday for a non-league match.
