Spikers Roar Past Panthers

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University wasted little time in completing a USA South Conference volleyball season sweep over Ferrum College with a 3-0 win Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (12-11, 6-5 USA South) needed just 45 minutes to take out the Panthers (0-22, 0-12).

SU won at 15, 15 and 13 to win its fifth straight match against Ferrum.

The Hornets hit .342 for the match, including an amazing .786 in the third set. Coach Jaime Terenzi's club had 11 kills in 14 attempts against zero errors in that final set.

Junior Mary Harshman and sophomore Haley Smith led the victors with eight kills each while senior Rachel Maki added seven.

Eight of the nine women who saw action in the match (except for libero Emily Jones) had at least one kill.

Sophomore Katy Griffith paced the defense with 10 digs while Brooke Strathy and Kelcy Brown had 17 and 15 assists, respectively.

Kayla Trippeer had 10 kills for the Panthers.

SU continues USA South Conference play this Saturday with a tri-match at Peace College. The Hornets will face N.C. Wesleyan in addition to the host Pacers.
