Spikers Sweep Squirrels

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team tied a school record for conference volleyball wins with a 3-0 USA South Conference victory over Mary Baldwin Tuesday evening.

Shenandoah (14-12, 8-6 USA South) won at 17, 19 and 19 in finishing off its second straight season sweep over the Fighting Squirrels (2-21, 1-12).

The eight conference victories ties the 2003 team for most in school history.

SU has four conference contests remaining this season.

Senior Rachel Maki, junior Mary Harshman and sophomore Haley Smith paced the victors with seven kills each with Harshman also contributing a co-match-high 13 digs.

Smith, off an assist from junior Kelcy Brown, had the clinching kill of the match.

Libero Emily Jones backed up Harshman with 10 digs.

Brooke Strathy and Brown directed the offense with 17 and 13 assists, respectively.

The Hornets are back in action on Thursday in a non-league match at Marymount.
