DANVILLE, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its final road USA South Conference tri-match of the season with a pair of losses Saturday afternoon at Averett.
Shenandoah (14-15, 8-8 USA South) lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to the host Cougars before Methodist swept SU 3-0 in the middle match of the day.
Averett (21-9, 12-2) rallied after SU won the first two sets at 23 and 18; AU was victorious at 9 and 11 in sets three and four before closing it out at 8 in the decisive fifth.
Junior Mary Harshman had a team-high 10 kills with sophomore Haley Smith adding eight. Harshman also led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
Methodist won at 20, 17 and 18 in the second match.
Senior Rachel Maki had nine kills, Harshman eight and Smith seven in the losing effort.
Defensively, Harshman had eight kills with Kelcy Brown and Brooke Strathy posting seven each.
SU hosts future ODAC rival Bridgewater on Monday at 7 in a non-conference match. This contest will also be the Hornets 'Dig Pink' event for the 2011 season.
