GREENSBORO, N.C. - Shenandoah University snapped its three-match men's tennis losing streak Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 USA South victory at Greensboro.
The win for SU (4-4, 1-1 USA South) over Greensboro (0-8, 0-1) also snaps a 29-match conference losing streak for the Hornets.
Shenandoah had not defeated a league opponent since downing N.C. Wesleyan 5-2 on March 18, 2006.
Thanks to wins in the top two doubles matches, SU took a 2-1 lead into singles and then swept the Pride in those six contests to record the historic victory.
Michael Milanov, Julian Fehr, Dustan DeMello and Adam Bamberger were all double winners for the Hornets.
Milanov combined with DeMello to win 9-7 at No. 1 doubles before he took out Chris Wilson 6-2, 6-2 in the top singles match.
DeMello was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at No. 3 singles over Matt Moscatello.
Fehr and Bamberger won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and then were victorious 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 and 6-0, 6-1 at Nos. 2 and 5 singles, respectively.
SU returns home to face McDaniel in a non-league match Monday at 3:00.
