WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Mary Washington rallied for a 2-1 women's soccer victory over host Shenandoah Thursday evening on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.
Senior Jessi Dennis gave the Hornets (0-1) the early lead with her goal off of a Missy Volonino assist, but SU could not hold the advantage.
Following Dennis' goal in the 15th minute, the two teams battled back and forth without finding the back of the net before Erin Reynolds brought the game back to level with her goal at 52:27.
Mary Washington (1-0) then netted the game-winner on a Kelsey Carter to Carly Davis tally in the 74th minute.
Shenandoah keeper Kat Terza, celebrating her birthday, made six saves in the losing effort.
SU took 13 of the game's 24 shots and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Eagles netminder Tina Brehm matched Terza's six stops.
The Hornets are back in action on September 7 in a non-league game versus future ODAC foe Eastern Mennonite.
