Women Win First

WINCHESTER, Va. - Host Shenandoah University earned its first women's soccer win of the 2011 season with a 1-0 non-league victory over future ODAC opponent Eastern Mennonite Wednesday night.

Sophomore Hannah Oakes tallied the game-winner for the Hornets (1-1) by redirecting a cross from senior Jessi Dennis in the 59th minute.

Shenandoah dominated play against the Royals (0-3), outshooting its visitors 28-4, but saw EMU keeper Jenni Beck make 10 saves to keep her side in it.

Freshman Alyssa Plourde, who came on to start the second half in place of senior Kat Terza, made two saves in earning her first collegiate victory.

Terza did not have to make a save.

The Hornets also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

SU is back in action this weekend at the Washington & Lee Invitational. The Hornets Earlham (Ind.) on Saturday at 2:30.
