Men's Soccer Battles to Tie

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University snapped its four-match losing streak to start the men's soccer season with a 0-0 non-league draw versus Washington (Md.).

The Hornets (0-4-1) had plenty of excellent chances against WC (1-1-1), but were unable to catch a break as three consecutive shots went off the frame in the second half.

The first of these attempts, by Kevin Kupris in the 56th minute, was the squad's best chance to score.

Receiving a through pass, Kupris beat both his defender and Shoremen keeper Chris Phipps, but his shot clanged off the inside of the left post and bounced out.

Senior L.A. St. Hill hit the post on a rebound attempt of Kupris' shot, before Kupris had a second shot bounce off the crossbar 90 seconds after his original attempt.

Washington had all of three of the shots in the 20-minute extra session, but Hornets keeper James Dutcher made two of his four saves to maintain the clean sheet.

WC also had five of the game's nine corners.

Shenandoah returns to the pitch on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. game against Stevenson.
