WINCHESTER, Va. - Regionally-ranked Virginia Wesleyan halted Shenandoah University's women's soccer winning streak at three games with a 2-0 non-league victory Monday afternoon on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.
The No. 2 in the South Marlins (9-0) scored in the 18th and 59th minutes to down the Hornets (5-3).
Bre Ingargiola scored what proved to be the game-winner as she gathered in a long through pass from Jessica Edelman and was able to beat SU keeper Kat Terza with a low shot to the far post.
Shenandoah had a couple of excellent chances for the equalizing goal in the opening half, but VWC keeper Erica Keil was able to come up with five total saves.
The Hornets last, best chance came in the 80th minute on a direct kick shot by Sarah Hensley. Hensley drove a 30-yard shot that Keil was able to snatch just before the attempt crossed under the bar.
The Marlins outshot SU 8-7 and had a 4-2 advantage in corners.
Shenandoah has one final non-league tuneup, on Thursday at home versus Frostburg State, before beginning USA South Conference play this weekend. Thursday's game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
