Women Dominate Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University opened up its final USA South Conference women's soccer slate with a 5-2 victory at N.C. Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (5-4, 1-0 USA South) scored twice in the first half and coasted to the three-goal win over the Lady Bishops (0-9, 0-1).

Sophomore Christine Lipovsky opened the scoring in the 36th minute before Sarah Hensley finished off a Lipovsky corner less than two minutes later to give the Hornets a comfortable advantage.

SU, which outshot its hosts 21-8 for the game, held NCWC to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes of play.

The Lady Bishops briefly made matters interesting with a goal at 61:39, but Shenandoah answered with a goal of its own 35 seconds later and another off a corner in the 68th minute to extend the lead out to three goals.

Laura Standley had the goal in the 63rd minute and Brittany Mason tallied in the 68th.

Freshman Taylor Oehm, off a Hannah Oakes assist, closed out the day's scoring with a goal at 77:20.

In addition to the 21-8 shot advantage, SU had four of the game's seven corners.

Keepers Kat Terza and Alyssa Plourde combined for six saves. Terza had one in the first half before turning it over to Plourde at the break.

Shenandoah is now off until hosting Methodist as part of a Homecoming Saturday tripleheader on October 1. The men's soccer team takes on the same MU Monarchs before the women take the pitch at 2. The day concludes with the football game at 7 p.m.
