Volleyball Wins for Coach

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team made coach Jaime Terenzi's birthday a positive one with a 3-1 victory over Lancaster Bible Saturday evening.

After LBC (10-17) was a winner at 19 in the opening set, SU (10-10) stormed back to win at 14, 20 and 18 in sets two through four to clinch the victory and give Terenzi a birthday present in the process.

The Chargers were dominant in the opening set, jumping out to a 14-3 lead, before the Hornets righted the ship midway through the set.

A 9-3 Shenandoah run in the second gave the hosts the lead for good and SU brought the match back to even by scoring seven of the final 11 points of the set.

Coming out of the promotional break, Terenzi's club scored 10 of the first 16 points of the third and finished that set with a 13-7 run.

The fourth set brought more of the same, with a 12-6 run turning a 13-12 contest into a 25-18 victory for the Hornets.

Junior Haley Smith had a team-high 11 kills with senior Megan Gillispie adding nine. Freshman Blake Parkes and senior Mary Harshman backed them up with eight kills each.

Kelcy Brown and Parkes ran the offense with 23 and 18 assists, respectively.

Gillispie led a group of four players in double figure digs with 16.

SU returns to ODAC play on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Bridgewater.
