ARLINGTON, Va. – Shenandoah University snapped a two-game men's basketball losing streak Wednesday evening with a 68-55 non-conference victory at Marymount University.
Shenandoah (3-4) held a double-digit lead midway through the second half before Marymount (1-3) roared back into the contest.
The Saints went on a 16-4 run from the 14:09 to 7:03 marks of the second to tie the game at 48-48 only to see the Hornets answer.
SU, which hit nine 3-pointers on the night, drained three of them in a span of 2:39 to reassert control and pull away from its hosts.
Junior Avery Green got matters started by breaking the tie with his 3-ball at 6:17 before freshman Sharif Almulla sandwiched a pair around a Marymount layup.
After junior Bryce Mitchell hit a running layup at 1:48, the Hornets had a 59-50 lead and were never threatened again.
Shenandoah outscored Marymount 9-3 in the final minute of the game to provide the final margin of victory.
The two teams combined for 49 turnovers in the game but SU scored 26 points off of the Saints 28 turnovers and allowed just 12 points off of its 21 miscues.
The Hornets also had a 35-28 advantage on the glass.
