LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Randolph College kept its perfect record intact Saturday with an 83-51 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah.
The WildCats (8-0, 3-0 ODAC) shot 53 percent from the field (31 of 59) and got a program-record 36 points from current ODAC Player of the Week Colton Hunt on their way to their fourth win in five lifetime meetings with SU (3-6, 0-3).
Randolph jumped out to a 50-18 halftime advantage as it held the Hornets to just five field goals in 28 attempts (18 percent) and 18 of 24 rebounds on the SU offensive end.
Shenandoah had six second-chance points in the opening 20 minutes, but was outscored 16-4 in the paint.
The 32-point halftime lead ballooned to 40 points by the 5:12 mark of the second; the Hornets then finished the game on a 16-8 run.
SU more than doubled its shooting percentage in the second half, hitting on 39 percent (11 of 28) of its shots and holding Randolph to just three 3-pointers after seeing the 'Cats hit eight in the first half.
The WildCats ended up by scoring 36 of the game's 46 points that came from inside the paint.
Hunt added 12 rebounds to give himself a double-double. He was joined in this feat by Mike Ehilegbu, who had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman Shaquille Rodney had 14 points in 27 minutes for the Hornets.
Shenandoah is off until next Saturday when it travels to Gettysburg for a non-league contest.
