Women's Lax Tops Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team earned its third straight win of the season Sunday afternoon with an 8-7 victory over future ODAC foe Guilford College.

Sophomore Samantha Sisson scored the game-winner for Shenandoah (3-1) with five seconds to play against the Quakers (3-2).

Sisson took the ball at the top of the fan, dodged right and stuck her shot into the top right corner to give the Hornets the victory in the first meeting between the two schools since 1996.

Shenandoah needed Sisson's last-second heroics as Guilford tied the game at 7-7 with two goals in the final 3:41.

SU with two goals in a 16 second span early in the game along with a Sisson to Justina Ludwig goal at 4:18, took a 3-0 lead into the halftime lockerroom.

GC got on the board 33 seconds into the second before Sydney Anderson fed Sisson for the first of her two goals at 28:31 to keep the Hornets lead at three.

The Quakers then scored three goals in a four-minute span to tie the game at 4-4. From this point on, the two teams were not separated by more than two goals.

Junior Corrinne Kosmowski had three of her four goals in the final 21:41 to keep SU on top.

After Guilford tied it at 1:58 and won the ensuing draw, Hornets keeper Ashley Cross made the last of her 10 saves and started the clear in which SU eventually scored the game-winning goal.

GC outshot the Hornets 26-20, scooped up 26 of 40 groundballs and had a 9-8 advantage in draws.

Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday night at Goucher. Game time is 7 p.m.
