CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Shenandoah University opened up its 2012 field hockey season with a 3-1 non-league loss at Wilson College Friday afternoon.
The Phoenix (1-0) scored the opening two goals of the game to pull away from the Hornets (0-1).
Freshman Alexandra Darrow converted a feed from classmate Sarah Brock to cut the deficit in half, but Wilson answered two minutes later to regain the two-goal advantage.
Junior Sarah Clare played the entire 70 minutes in goal for SU and made six saves.
The Phoenix outshot Shenandoah 13-8 and had a 14-9 advantage in penalty corners.
The Hornets are right back in action tomorrow afternoon at Dickinson College in a non-league match. The contest is set for a noon start.
