FREDERICK, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team opened its 2012 season in style Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins at Hood College.
The Hornets (2-0) won at 6,2 and 9 in a 3-0 sweep over Valley Forge, taking just 50 minutes to finish off the match, before downing the host Blazers 3-1.
SU won at 11 and 17 in sets one and two before HC (1-1) came back to win 26-24 in the third.
Shenandoah then finished it off with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set.
Against VFC, Sophomore Nicole Mueller led SU with a match-high seven kills while Mary Harshman added five and Haley Smith, Blake Parkes and Allie Pieper four each.
Shenandoah hit an amazing .600 for the match with just four errors in 50 attempts.
Kelcy Brown had 19 assists and Parkes 12 to fuel the offense.
Harshman had a match-high 13 kills against Hood with Megan Gillispie chipping in nine, Smith eight and Parkes seven.
Harshman also had 23 digs.
The Hornets travel to PSU-Altoona on Tuesday.
