WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan opened up the 2012 ODAC men's soccer season with a 3-0 victory over Shenandoah University Saturday morning.
The Marlins (2-3-1, 1-0 ODAC) scored three goals in a 12-minute span late in the second half to fuel the victory over SU (2-5, 0-1).
Brian Cornell, a Front Royal native, had the first and third goals of the run.
His first tally, at 75:59, was a perfectly placed shot into the upper left-hand corner of the net from 15-yards out.
Josh Kemp tallied an insurance goal at 84:41 before Cornell closed the book on the day's scoring at 87:43.
VWC outshot the Hornets 23-15 and had a slight, 6-5, advantage in corner kicks.
James Dutcher made six saves for the hosts.
SU continues ODAC play at Eastern Mennonite at 4:00.
