WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting York College of Pennsylvania scored the game-winning goal with no time in the clock in a 3-2 non-conference field hockey victory over Shenandoah Tuesday evening.
Awarded a penalty corner in the waning moments of the contest, the Spartans (4-2) got a Kailey Brewer tally from right in front to down SU (5-3).
Brewer's tally actually came on the third corner awarded during the final moments. With the Hornets unable to clear the ball, thus extending the game, YCP was awarded a second and then a third corner. On the third attempt, Sandee Reich passed the ball across the front of the goal to Brewer, who knocked it home for the game-winner.
Shenandoah, after scoring the opening goal of the game at 13:45 on a Sarah DeLuca to Hannah Johnson tally, found itself down 2-1 as the Spartans scored at 19:06 and 35:42.
Freshman Tori Fenney then tied it for SU off of a Liz Grover assist at 64:21.
YCP outshot Shenandoah 18-3 and had 10 of the game's 11 corners.
Hornets keeper Sarah Clare made five saves in the losing effort.
Shenandoah opens up ODAC play on Saturday at Lynchburg.
