WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its second ODAC volleyball win of the season Tuesday evening with a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Mennonite University.
SU (8-4, 2-3 ODAC) won at 23, 22 and 14 over the Royals (2-10, 0-5).
Shenandoah had to work hard for the sweep, rallying from a late five-point deficit in the first set and down three in the second.
Trailing 21-16 in the first, the Hornets reeled off three straight points to make it 21-19 before EMU brought itself to the brink of victory by taking a 23-19 lead on an SU service error followed by a Hornets attack error.
Shenandoah head coach Jaime Terenzi then called timeout, and her club came out of the break to score six straight points and steal the set.
Megan Gillispie and Haley Smith had kills to start the run before Eastern Mennonite had four straight attack errors to complete the run.
EMU led 10-5 and 19-15 in the second before the Hornets again rallied.
This time, a 7-1 SU rally put the hosts in position to clinch the match. Gillispie finished off the set with a kill.
Shenandoah was dominant in the final set, jumping out to 6-0 lead and eventually expanding its advantage to 18-6 before coasting home to the 11-point win.
Gillispie led all players with nine kills while Smith and Samantha Schambach both had seven.
Kelcy Brown fueled the attack with 16 assists.
SU steps out of conference this weekend for a tournament at Gallaudet.
