Volleyball Drops a Pair

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team opened up the 2012 Worthington Tournament hosted by Gallaudet University by dropping a pair of matches Friday.

Messiah (9-6) was a 25-21, 25-18, 27-25 victor over the Hornets (8-6) in the opener before Washington and Lee took a 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21) victory in the nightcap.

Against MC, junior Haley Smith had six of the 28 kills for SU with Mary Harshman adding five and both Megan Gillispie and Allie Pieper four each.

Defensively, Harshman paced the club with nine digs with Pieper adding three blocks solo.

Kelcy Brown had 11 assists and Blake Parkes 10 to help run the offense. Against W&L, Brown had 20 assists and Parkes 14.

Sophomore Samantha Schambach had a team-high 10 kills in that second match with Smith adding eight and Rachel Gross five.

Harshman and Nicole Mueller both had 14 digs.

Shenandoah continues play on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Geneva.
