WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Emory and Henry sent the Shenandoah University men's basketball team down to its eighth straight defeat with a 66-56 ODAC victory Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (3-12, 0-6 ODAC) held a 26-25 lead at the break and extended this advantage to eight points, 37-29, on the strength of a Sharif Almulla 3-pointer at the 15:22 mark.
And then the Wasps (3-9, 1-4) answered.
E&H scored the next 12 points of the game in a span of a 4:55 to take a lead it would not relinquish.
Almulla finally stopped the bleeding with a 3-ball at the 9:38 mark, but the damage was done.
SU would get no closer than three points the rest of the way.
Bryce Mitchell cut the deficit to three on a fast break layup at 6:49, but the Wasps scored 13 of the game's next 19 points to push their advantage back into double-digits.
A final Hornets run, this one 6-1, brought the hosts to within five points with 56 seconds remaining but SU could not fully climb out of its hole.
Alumulla paced the Hornets with a co-game-high 12 with Jared Carithers adding 11.
Tyler Mullins had 12, Armando Murrell 11 and both Jorel Terrell and Charles Smith 10 for E&H.
Emory & Henry also had a 45-26 advantage on the boards which led to a 38-20 advantage in the paint and a 13-2 bulge in second chance points.
Shenandoah takes to the road on Wednesday night with a 7:00 contest at Bridgewater.
