'Jackets Sting Men

ASHLAND, Va. – Host Randolph-Macon sent Shenandoah University down to its seven straight men's basketball defeat with a 78-51 ODAC win Wednesday evening.

The 'Jackets (8-6, 3-2 ODAC) took total control of the contest by holding SU (3-11, 0-5) without a field goal over the final 7:12 of the first half.

Trailing 21-20 after sophomore Jared Carithers canned his third 3-pointer of the stanza, Shenandoah saw Macon reel off 12 of the final 13 points of the half to take a 33-21 lead into the break.

Dante Serale had the lone point in this spurt, hitting the middle shot of a three-shot foul opportunity with 5:18 remaining.

The Hornets missed nine shots and five turnovers during the scoreless drought.

The two teams played relatively even for the initial 10 minutes of the second before the hosts completely erased all doubt with an 8-0 run from the 10:06 to 8:47 marks.

From this point on, SU would get no closer than 19 points.

Macon finished the contest by scoring 15 of the game's final 22 points.

Carithers led the visitors with a game-high 15 points while Serale added 10.

Dylan Cole had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the victors.

R-MC outrebounded the Hornets 47-34.

Shenandoah returns home on Saturday for a 2:00 ODAC game against Emory and Henry.
